Grandma Laurie
Welcome to Grandma Laurie's blog.
Who is Grandma Laurie?
I write a lot of books, and I'm proud to say I have four children's books available, as of 3.18.19. I have two grandchildren, both boys, ages 3 and 6. I usually write a book when one of them tells me the topic they'd like to see.
The books are written in such a way that allows for conversation between the adult reading and the child or children. Children today are not brought up having adult conversations, yet they will spend most of their lives in the company of adults, and actually being an adult. Teaching them now, when they're young, will give them skills they'll use their entire lives.
Plus, often, the things we fondly remember from our childhood are generated by the time spent with adults, mostly older adults in the form of grandparents. I remember sitting in my grandfather's lap, him telling me stories of his time working on the mail train from Chicago to Grand Rapids, Michigan. My mom would lay on the floor with my sister and me, reading the original Oz books by Frank L. Baum.
So, as Grandma Laurie, I encourage joint reading, joint laughter, and joint love.
